Swimmer Spotlight: Syniah
Syniah Leads the Way

Syniah, a Brooklyn local, did not know how to swim when she joined Swim Corps in 2024. Her goals were to learn to breathe underwater, overcome her fear of drowning, and build confidence. By summer’s end, she could swim, float, and laugh in the water, discovering a strength she never knew.
In 2025, she returned as a Group Leader, helping others face the same fear. Any support given to our programming helps more young people like Syniah find safety, strength, and self-belief.
Syniah shares her experiences with Swim Corps:
"Rising Tide Swim Corps helped me grow in ways I never expected. I started as a participant just trying to build confidence in the water, but the encouragement, structure, and community quickly turned it into a place where I felt supported and motivated. The fellow group leaders and staff pushed me to become a better swimmer.
Becoming a group leader was one of the most meaningful parts of my experience. I had the chance to guide new swimmers, keep practices running smoothly, and be the person others could rely on—just like others once were for me. Rising Tide didn’t just make me a better swimmer; it helped me discover my voice, my leadership, and my confidence."
We need your help
Swim Corps gives NYC young people a safe, supportive place to learn to swim, earn CPR and first-aid training, and build confidence that endures. It's not just lessons - it's belonging. For Syniah, it meant finding her voice, learning to lead, and realizing she could do anything. Your gift helps more young people go from fear to freedom, just like she did.
