Role Details:

Hours: 27-30 hours per week (paid hourly)

Type: Part-time, Seasonal

Program Runs: Tues/Wed/Thurs 8:30-5:30pm. *Some administrative hours may be required on Mon & Fri.

Start Date: July 1, 2025

End Date: Aug 31, 2025

 

Description:

 

Rising Tide Effect’s mission is to empower a positive evolution in underserved and at risk communities through water safety and instruction. We free people from fear & access joy, using water as the medium. The Swim Corps program was launched in 2023 and is ready to welcome this season’s group leaders and participants.

 

Our group leaders are responsible for ensuring safety in and around the pool, supporting our participants during excursions like surfing and kayaking and enforcing our code of conduct. This role involves working directly with individuals ages 16 to 24 years old, whilst displaying good leadership skills. Additionally, group leaders are expected to track the participant’s hours, ensure the participants get to each event / location on time, and clearly communicate if there are any changes to the program agenda.

 

You will work closely with other group leaders for support, as well as our Program Director who is there to ensure you have all the necessary information and resources to succeed in your role. You are expected to collaborate with the Program Director to solve any problems that may arise during the program, to ensure all participants are safe and included and to provide feedback on what is working well or not working well as part of the program.

Key responsibilities:

 

  • Pre-Program Preparation: Complete all onboarding tasks, including submitting all documents and payroll details, attending required orientations and staff training, and setting up communication channels with participant’s details.

  • Daily Leadership: Ensure participants are registered, equipped with their gear, and engaged throughout the day. Maintain accurate time logs for both yourself and participants, and address any issues promptly with the Program Director.

  • Weekly Coordination: Communicate weekly schedules, updates, and expectations to participants. Ensure homework is completed and participants are prepared for each session.

  • On-Site and Off-Site Management: Foster teamwork and accountability within your cohort, maintain cleanliness and order at all locations, and represent Rising Tide Effect with professionalism.

  • Program Graduation: Celebrate the cohort's success by completing all graduation related tasks, and answering any end of program questions.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be legally allowed to work in the state of New York

  • Must be a minimum of 20 years of age

  • Must pass a certified background check

 

Additional preferences (not required):

  • Experience in child care, summer camps, coaching, lifeguarding, or as a swim instructor

  • A driver’s licence, valid in New York State

  • CPR Certification

  • Lifeguard Certification

  • Experience in Google Sheets / Microsoft Excel

  • Experience with Google Calendar

Group Leader's Agenda (2025)

Total program run time: 6 weeks

Jan - Mar 2025

Apply as a  Group Leader 

From January to March, we collect applications for Group Leaders who will support the success of our participants in 2025 as instructors.​​​

Apr - May 2025

Interviews & Hiring
From April to May we will be interviewing and hiring our Group Leaders.  

June 2025

Staff Training​​​​
Cohorts selected to lead our program will go through an in-person staff training and will be provided with all the resources they need to run a successful summer program.

Jul - Aug 2025

Active Programming​​​
Group leaders will guide the participants from their first day of the program until their final graduation ceremony. 
The program starts on July 7 with a registration event, and runs from July 8 to August 14. On Aug 15 we will hold a graduation ceremony to celebrate the end of the program.


Note: Some tasks may extend into September to ensure we have collected all data, media, and documents before the season is officially wrapped.

The program takes place on
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
