Job Description:

The Lifeguard Instructor should provide:


Classroom learning: classes covering lifeguarding as a career path and foundational water safety knowledge.


In pool learning: Interactive activities on the pool deck and in the water, including group rescue scenarios. Participants will complete our Entry/Exit Swim Survival Test progressing through shallow, mid, and deep water assessments.


Beach learning: Organizing and leading two scheduled beach days


Lifeguard-Focused Day – Hands-on lifeguard drills and rescue techniques.


Ocean Safety Event – Engaging activities centered on real-world ocean rescue and safety skills.


Post-program: Meet with the leadership team to provide feedback for reporting and assessment of what went well and changes to be made for next year's program. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Videos & Discussion: Introduction to lifeguarding, pathways to certification, and firsthand experiences.

  • Classroom Learning: Water safety principles, different environments, weather impact, emergency response, and assisting distressed swimmers.

  • Foundation for Certification: Preparing participants with lifesaving concepts for future CPR and First Aid training.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be legally allowed to work in the state of New York

  • Must have a current Lifeguard Certification

  • Must have a current CPR, AED and First Aid certification

Additional Preferences:

  • Strong swimming ability and physical stamina

  • Ability to remain calm, focused, and decisive in high-pressure situations

  • Commitment to safety, responsibility, and accountability

  • Reliability, punctuality, and professionalism

  • Ability to follow protocols and take direction

  • Prior experience in aquatic settings, youth programs, or group supervision

  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills

  • Interest in careers in aquatics, public safety, or the blue economy

  • Leadership presence and confidence on deck
