Job Description:
Reporting to the Head of Digital Strategy & Operations, the Photographer & Visual Storyteller (Photo + Video) captures the essence of Rising Tide Effect’s non-profit programs through high-quality photography and video.
This role exists to document participant experiences, elevate storytelling, and create compelling visual assets that reflect the impact, energy, and mission of our important life saving work across New York City.
You will be present for a handful of shoot days within daily programming, capturing authentic moments while producing high-quality content to support storytelling and brand growth.
Location: Our main location will be LIU in Brooklyn, but our other programs run in the Rockaways. Flexibility to travel between programs on different days is necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
Photography & Visual Documentation
Capture high-quality images of daily programming, including lessons, excursions, and community moments
Document participant journeys, milestones, and candid interactions
Capture head shots for each of our 120 participants / staff for our flagship program
Ensure a consistent visual style aligned with Rising Tide Effect’s brand
Organize and deliver edited photo selects on a consistent schedule
Video Production (with Audio)
Film short-form video content across program sites
Capture clean, high-quality audio for interviews, testimonials, and live moments
Conduct on-site interviews with participants, staff, and partners
Support the creation of highlight reels, social content, and campaign assets (editing polished packages would not be required of this role)
Storytelling & Content Development
Identify and capture meaningful stories that reflect impact and mission
Collaborate with leadership to align content with marketing and fundraising needs
Contribute ideas for visual storytelling, campaigns, and content series
Equipment & Technical Execution
Operate professional camera, video, and audio equipment confidently in dynamic environments (poolside, outdoors, active settings)
Manage media files, backups, and organization of assets
Ensure proper lighting, framing, and sound quality across all content
On-Site Presence & Collaboration
Be an active and professional presence within program environments, we prefer no interruptions to lessons / no staged shoots
Build trust with participants to capture authentic moments
Coordinate with staff to ensure coverage of key moments and events
Minimum Requirements:
Must be legally allowed to work in the state of New York
Proven experience in photography (portfolio required)
Must provide your own equipment and transportation
Must carry and provide proof of personal liability insurance
Additional Preferences:
Equipment capable of capturing under water moments would be a huge bonus
Experience capturing video with clear, high-quality audio
Ability to work in fast-paced, outdoor, and aquatic environments
Availability during program hours (primarily weekdays Tues to Thu, daytime) during the months of July and August.
